I have been producing The Outlet Dance Project for 8 years, in partnership with Grounds For Sculpture (GFS). And while GFS generously provides compensation to offset the production costs of the event, I’ve never been able to achieve complete financial coverage for this popular and highly valued community event. This year I would like to be able to give a $200 stipend to each choreographer, and that’s where you come in. Our Kickstarter Campaign did not reach its goal, so now I'd like to ask you, individually, to donate.
The next Outlet Dance Project performance and film festival will take place on October 7th. The dance performance will begin at 2pm and the film showings will be at 11:30am, 12:45pm, and 4:00pm at Grounds For Sculpture at 18 Fairgrounds Road, Hamilton, NJ 08619.
The back story
In 2005 I felt compelled to create this project because I wanted to choreograph, dance, and be part of a community of dancers, which was sorely lacking in central New Jersey. At the time of its conception, I was teaching dance at the Princeton YWCA (Young Women's Christian Association), so when I created The Outlet, I put a focus on women choreographers. Every year The Outlet presents 12 women choreographers at Grounds For Sculpture in Hamilton, New Jersey. Grounds For Sculpture is a unique and beautiful 42-acre outdoor sculpture park created to "promote an understanding of and appreciation for contemporary sculpture for all people." Half of The Outlet performances feature site-specific choreography based on and around the sculptures and the other half is inside on a stage. This year we are adding a dance film component to The Outlet to be shown in the screening room at the visitor’s center at Grounds For Sculpture.
The benefits of our festival
This annual festival gives a wide range of people a one-of-a-kind dance experience in an incredible setting. The Outlet is easily accessible and extremely affordable - the public attends for just the $12.00 per person entry fee for Grounds For Sculpture (discounted prices available for seniors and children). The Outlet Dance Project is one of Ground For Sculpture's highest attended events of the year, with audiences averaging between one and two thousand people.
This performance could not happen without the tireless devotion of all of the people involved. It is a wonderfully inspired collaboration between everyone at Grounds For Sculpture, choreographers, dancers, musicians, sculptures, sound engineers, volunteers, audience members, family members, peacocks (that live on the grounds), and the weather.
To be able to continue to grow this awesome and inspired project, we need your help. Please please please donate to our campaign through PayPal so that we are able to have a dynamic production on October 7, 2012, where all of the choreographers are paid and costs are covered.
Thank you!
